In addition to his status as a Lifetime Achiever, Dr. Weiss was named to The Academy-Honor Society at Northeastern University in 1955; was a member of the Society of Sigma Xi at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1957-2017; received the Award for Meritorious Service, Teaching and Patient Care I & III (Tufts) Medical Service from Boston City Hospital in 1971; was presented with the First Annual Dr. J. McKeever M.D. Award for Outstanding Educator by St. Vincent Hospital Teaching Affiliate University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, Mass, in 1973; received The Chadwick Medal from the Massachusetts Thoracic Society in 1990 for Distinguished Contributions to the Study and Treatment of Tuberculosis and Other Thoracic Diseases; Professor Extraordinaire, Faculty of Medicine, University of Guadalajara Medical School, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico 1977 and 1982, and received a Citation as One of America's Top Physicians from staff physicians at Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2003. He was named Honorary Astronomer, Department of Astronomy, Wellesley College, 2013.
His family and friends established The Dr. Earle B. Weiss, MD Student Research Fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in 2005, in perpetuity to support the early education of medical students and encourage research interests. He additionally endowed The Annie Jump Cannon Research Fellowship in Astronomy in the Department of Astronomy Wellesley College-2013, The Sarah Whiting Medal for outstanding scholarship Department Astronomy Wellesley College-2013, and endowed a Research Fellowship in the Department of Biology Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016.
Dr. Weiss is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease Board, as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He was an Associate Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians from 1971-1980. He was or maintains affiliation with the American Medical Association, Massachusetts Medical Society, Massachusetts Thoracic Society, American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Physicians, Association of Clinical Scientists, American Federation for Clinical Research, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Inter-Asthma, International Union Against Tuberculosis, Society for Free Radical Research, The American Academy of Medical Directors, Sigma Xi M.I.T. Over the years, Dr. Weiss has lent his expertise to a variety of national and regional committees for the American and Massachusetts Thoracic Societies. He also served as Chairman of the Medical Education Committee at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and as Director of the Respiratory Disease Fellowship Program at St. Vincent Hospital.
In addition to 3 textbooks he has published 69 peer reviewed original articles, several reprinted in foreign language, and an audio tape of recording of breath sounds.

Introduction and Pioneering studies of Controlled Mechanical Ventilation in the Acute Respiratory Failure of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorders.
Arterial Blood gas profiles, 'Cross Over Asthma Point' in acute, severe Asthma. Highlighted the very critical phase in the evolution of severe asthma for therapeutic intervention potential.
Quantitative methods for recording lung sounds; these studies stimulated renewed interest in this area after a latency of many years.
Role of Calcium and Oxygen Toxic Products in inciting asthma and fundamental to basic airways reactivity. ("Defect in Calcium Homeostasis and Bronchial Hyperactivity: The Ca++ hypothesis of asthma that suggests that an altered control of cellular Ca++ influx and/or release may be the biochemical basis of all forms of asthma. This is rather similar to the situation found in hypertension, in which the reactivity of vascular smooth muscle could be explained by an altered control of Ca++ movements. Dr. Weiss reported an increased sensitivity to extracellular Ca++ in airway smooth muscles following in vitro anaphylaxis in guinea pig with resultant increase in muscle tone. This indicates that, following immunogenic activation, there is an acquired defect in Ca++ homeostasis leading to airway hyperactivity. - Calcium Channel Blockers and Asthma -- Lung (1986)

Established (with Dr. L. Kettle) the first Clinical Assembly Section of the American Thoracic Society- A distinct scientific division of The American Thoracic Society (ATS) devoted exclusively to emphasize clinical respiratory issues- 1971- This Assembly has been a permanent component of ATS since that time and the major section of The Society.
Textbook” BRONCHIAL ASTHMA: MECHANISMS AND THERAPEUTICS, In three editions this text was the major resource for basic researchers and clinicians in the United States as well as Internationally over a period of about 40 years.
Status Asthmaticus Symposium Textbook: Published in 1978 was the only book then devoted to the severe state of intractable asthma.
Chairman and Organizer of the first Medical Devices Committee of The American Thoracic Society 1972-1975. Set standards for pulmonary function and lung physiology testing in laboratories and intensive care units. This committee also was integrated into a FDA advisory panel encompassing Respiratory Device Standards 1973-1975.
Dr. Weiss earned a 1955 B.S. in Biology and Chemistry with Honors from Northeastern University, a M.S. in Biochemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1957, and an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, 1961. He then completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and was a resident in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital. From 1964-66, he was a Fellow of the National Heart Institute, the Lung Station (Tufts), the United States Public Health Service and Boston City Hospital.

Since retirement Dr. Weiss has pursued two interests: Poetry and ‘Photographic Impressionism.’
He has published two poetry books, the first FADED SHADOWS (2013) and the second FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDS OF TIME (2017). There have also been contributions to the following anthologies: The Best Poems of 2005 International Library of Poetry; The Colors of Life, 2003, International Library of Poetry.
He has pioneered the concept of’ Impressionism in photography’ with four exhibitions: Baldwin Art Gallery (2014), Natick Center for the Arts (2015, 2016), Morse Institute Natick Ma (2015), and a juried exhibition at The Danforth Art Museum, Framingham, Ma (2015). He has published several books on this subject: PHOTOGRAPHIC IMPRESSIONISM VOLUME I & II with HAIKU Annotation, (2014), Baldwin Hill Art Press, and STUDIES IN PHOTOGRAPHIC IMPRESSIONISM, VOLUME I & II (2016), Baldwin Hill Art Press, Natick, Massachusetts.
